Chest Infections
A chest infection affects the lungs, either in the larger airways (bronchitis) or in the smaller air sacs (pneumonia). It is slightly worse than a heavy cold and is extremely common in children affecting about one third of babies in their first year. The infection itself may only last five to seven days but the symptoms can last much longer. Young children are more at risk of Pneumonia.
Pneumonia
Pneumonia is an inflammation of the air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs caused viruses and bacteria. The most common bacteria affecting children is streptococcus pneumonia. Pneumonia can come on suddenly, often after a viral infection such as a cold. Symptoms include a high fever, coughing, breathlessness and sometimes pleurisy – a sharp chest pain when breathing in.
Bronchiolitis
Bronchiolitis is a common illness of the respiratory tract and is caused by an infection in the airways (bronchioles) that lead to the lungs. When these airways become inflamed, they swell and fill with mucus, which makes breathing difficult. Bronchiolitis most often affects infants and younger children as their small airways can become blocked more easily than those of older children or adults. This typically occurs during the first 2 years of life, with peak occurrence at about 3 to 6 months of age.
The early symptoms of bronchiolitis are very similar to those of a common cold. The first symptom is usually a blocked or runny nose. Your child may also have a slight cough or fever. Symptoms usually get worse during the first three days and then gradually improve. During this time, your child may experience the following symptoms:
-
A rasping and persistent dry cough
-
Rapid or noisy breathing
-
Brief pauses in their breathing
-
Feeding less and having fewer wet nappies
-
Vomiting after feeding
-
Being irritable
How The Salt Clinic Can Help
Salt Therapy is a clinically proven natural, safe and beneficial method of treatment for every age group from 6 months old. Our medical device can help to:
-
Kill bacteria (the salt dries out all the germs and bacteria)
-
Anti- Inflammatory (Based on clinical studies the dry, saline diffused air reduces inflammation)
-
Salt has a mucolytic effect (loosens excessive mucus, speeds the elimination of toxins)
-
Removes pathogen agents (airborne pollen)
-
Strengthens your child’s immune system and helps to restores energy levels
-
It reduces IgE levels (reduces oversensitivity of the immune system)
As a result of Salt Therapy, inflammation and mast cell response within the bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli reduces and the quality and function of breathing improves, this leads to the balancing of other bodily systems, due to increased oxygen availability. Thanks to the desensitization of the immune response, sleep patterns will improve and acute attacks and the need for medication will substantially decrease. This means the child will have more energy to play or exercise and become stronger and more resilient to every day infections.
How Often Should You Attend
-
10 to 15 sessions are recommended for long term results.
-
The sessions should be frequent, 2 - 3 per week is suggested.
-
In most children, after a course of Salt Therapy symptoms disappear. The treatment's efficacy is estimated up to 98%.
How It Works
Salt has many beneficial properties including:
-
Anti-bacterial
-
Anti-inflammatory
-
Mucolytic effects: loosens excessive mucus and speeds up mucociliary transport
-
Eliminates pathogen agents (airborne pollen)
-
Lessens IgE level (immune system oversensitivity)
-
Strengthen the immune system
During a session, clients breathe in the dry, salt-enriched air into the lungs, the salt is so fine it reaches deep into the lungs and begins to reduce inflammation, kill bacteria and loosens phlegm, which begins to clear rapidly so clients have more lung capacity. The salt will also have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effect on the skin whilst reducing your IgE levels and your sensitivity to allergies. Salt therapy can help to:
-
Lessen the need for inhalers and antibiotics
-
Makes breathing easier after just a couple of sessions
-
Improve lung function
-
Reduce the amount of hospital admittances
